On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 7-8:30pm, or Sunday, June 20, 9:30-11am,  you are invited to a presentation: “Who Are the Quakers?” The power point based presentation will include short sketches of some better known historical Quaker figures as well as an overview of what beliefs, faith, and practices sets Quakerism apart from other denominations and sects. Learn more about Quaker worship, decision making, testimonies, queries, and more. A question and answer period will follow.

A Night of Music for Peace

Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Ruth Fitz, Fred Ritz, and friends will team up for a night of Music for Peace at the Friends’ (Quaker) Meeting House. Ruth Fitz (vocals, guitar), Fred Ritz (keyboard, accordion), and friends will bring an evening of engaging entertainment—from spirituals to foot-stomping fun.

Fitz and Ritz have entertained the community in the past for a number of good causes, most recently raising money for the Christian Peacemaker violence-reduction teams working in crisis situations and militarized areas around the world at the invitation of local peace and human rights workers.

Donations for this upcoming concert support the Quaker Meeting’s Peace-Building Fund.

Quaker Quest - one day training

Saturday, June 6, 2009 9 am to 4 pm at York Friends Meeting

Join us for a taste of QUAKER QUEST, an exciting new program of Quaker outreach and advancement, created in England and spreading throughout the United States.  The full-day preparatory workshop will be facilitated by FGC staff.

QUAKER QUEST has brought many seekers and inquirers to Quaker meetings.  The preparatory workshop has great value as “in-reach” as a means for examining our own faith community, our personal relationships to it, and what it offers to newcomers.

QUAKER QUEST was first developed by Friends in London, and has since spread to many Meetings in Great Britain.  The program has been picked up by FGC, which is actively seeking to extend it to Friends' Meetings throughout the United States.

More information on QUAKER QUEST is available at http://www.fgcquaker.org/quakerquest

Friends from other Monthly Meetings are welcome to attend. If you would like to attend, please contact Leada Dietz at leadadietz@epix.net or 717-515-0631.

Third Annual Native Plant Sale
Saturday,
April 18, 2009, 10AM - 4PM

Bring back the natives! Why use native plants in your gardens and landscaping? Here are just a few reasons:

  • They attract birds, bees, and butterflies
  • They are well-adapted to our soil and climate, so they require less care and watering once established
  • They thrive without fertilizers

Proceeds will benefit our monthly science education outreach to  McKinley Elementary 4th graders.  This is part of a Go Green Celebration on Beaver St., complete with many other activities. For more information about the celebration, see http://www.sweetmelissasdream.com/gogreen.html
