Friends in York find strength in the diversity of our spiritual
backgrounds and beliefs. We recognize that we have shortcomings in matters of
tolerance and understanding and accept these as gifts from the Spirit. They
challenge us to grow and mature in the LIght. Our spiritual well-being is
nurtured by the quaility of our Meetings for Worship. We sense the presence of
God in our worship and Friends feel refreshed by the silence and uplifted by the
prayers and vocal ministry that come out of that calm place.
Friends have varied concerns that they bring to Meeting. We realize the
Meeting has not done sufficient laboring with some of these concerns. Our focus
is scattered and we sometimes suffer from a lack of organization and possibly a
perceived lack of will. In order to fully discern the sense of Meeting and God's
will for us, Friends must be committed to putting aside differences on all
planes and seek Truth as revealed to us by the Inner Light.
Friends are concerned about how we project our Quaker testimonies beyond our
Meetings for Worship and Business. As a body of believers we have two missons:
an inward mission to worship God, which we feel we do well, and an outward
mission to be prophetic and to do service. There is a sense that we could do
better with our outward or social mission. Friends feel that if we can bring
these two missions together, Meeting will experience a feeling of wholeness and
peace.
The coming year will find York Friends looking to ways in which we can
nurture each other spiritually, socially and emotionally. We will also seek ways
in which we can recognize and support individuals with leadings. Beyond these
important efforts we will look for ways in which we can just have fun and enjoy
each other as children of the Light.
