... that there is "that of God in everyone." This is the basis upon which
Quakerism has existed for over 350 years. It is that belief which has led to
other tenets such as:
- the accordance of equality and respect to everyone
- a direct personal relationship with God without the aid of ministers or
other intermediaries
- the refusal to take oaths
- the commitment to live simply
- a commitment to the principals of peace and nonviolence and to the abolition
of war and injustice
Four Core Beliefs of The Religious Society of Friends
- Simplicity.........A commitment to living simply so that others may simply
live; avoiding all excess; living intentionally and with restraint; and living a
life true to one's beliefs.
- Equality...........There is that of God in each person and each has
opportunities to express that divinity.
- Integrity............A person needs to be truly in harmony with oneself and
to be whole spiritually one needs to live one's beliefs.
- Peace..............The basic testimony shows both a positive concern toward
taking away the occasion of all wars, and the commitment to non-violence in
resolving all matters of conflict.
